Our international inheritance practice focuses on inheritance matters with a nexus to the United States. The increasingly global market place has resulted in individuals maintaining assets and residences in multiple countries. Accordingly, seemingly simple inheritance matters may have international aspects. For example, a probate estate may have international exposure simply due to the fact that the decedent maintained a U.S. bank account or held real property in another country. The successful and efficient resolution of international inheritance matters requires a firm that specializes in international probate. 

 When advising our clients we take into consideration the domestic laws as well as international law and the laws of the domicile of the decedent and/or beneficiaries. We also advise our clients in civil law jurisdictions of the overall civil law treatment of the estate and/or distribution while taking into consideration foreign tax laws to minimize tax exposure both within the U.S. and abroad.  International probate matters require knowledge of several legal systems and our clients can feel confident that an experienced international inheritance firm with the requisite knowledge and expertise represents them.
